Palm Pre Hacking… Already?

Published by MobilePro97 under General, Palm Pre

With all technologies that have an interface, the Palm Pre has been reported in several cases already to be hacked. Palm is not tacking the hacking to fondly and does not want to repeat a problem that the IPhone has already had and that involves Jail Breaking.

In reading several articles on the Internet, there are hackers are doing more than hacking the Pre, but have successfully use the Palm Pre with ITunes… ya ITunes. I wonder if Apple is happy about that? Arstechnia.com has reported that Jon Lech Johansen has been able to sync a Palm Pre with ITunes.  Mr. Johansen has a great deal of knowledge in reverse engineering ITunes software and has made possible for other devices to sync with ITunes. What is more interesting is that when the Palm Pre is attached to the computer, the reported vendor is none other than “Apple”. Isn’t the world great. So I went over in Google and searched for his company and it come up as DoubleTwist.eu. First .eu site I have come across, but back to the point, his site is professional and is well organized. Attached is a screen shot of his demo video in the workings of his software.

Watch the demo

The fact that the Palm Pre on the list is amazing and we will have to see how Apple will react to that.

Now, within hours of the release of the Palm Pre, it has been announced by Mirror.co.uk that a hacker has already been able to great the first homebrew application. You mostly hear about this when it came to the Playstation Portable, but it caught my eye that the hacker was able to take a NASCAR application, analyze, and strip the coding to develop an application that is known by many as “Hello World”. What allowed the hacker to access the program was the use of a cheat code. Yes, a cheat code that allowed to access it’s development mode. Developers are still waiting on a Palm Pre WebOS SDK. Still, it’s an amazing feat for the hacker to accomplish this in such an extraordinary manner.

Now Rick, from PalmPreHacks.net has announced on the site forum that Palm has warned Pre Dev Wik to not post and continue supporting information on how to hack the Palm Pre when it comes to using internet tethering. Ironically, Sprint offers that all in data plan for $99, but it does not matter to the company. Sprint has said if it done, they may resort to legal actions to resort the hacking issue. Sprint is attempting to protect their bandwidth and is starting to be protective such as AT&T has with their IPhone.

It’s good to take note that all the hacking that has been so far will not stop and companies need to keep this in mind. The more you discourage it, the more you encourage the hackers and it is still easily possible to spread information all sorts of ways. Look on the bright side, hacking the IPhone has given the IPhone world free publicity and has generated interest in more than general users. Palm should attempt  to look at these issues an build on them to develop a more successful phone.

Pre Palm

Published by MobilePro97 under Palm Pre

Was fun to hold the Prepalm. Was just at best buy holding. The phone does feel small and does have a smaller screen. Seeing the multitasking working on the phone was amazing. It was smooth and the phone did not appear to slow down in playing with previous smart phones. The sliding phone feature of the keyboard was nice, but the use of the small keys as reported by other users was true. Seeing how the phone will evolve will be interesting.

PrePalm versus IPhone Opening

Published by MobilePro97 under Palm Pre

Sprint is boasting about the PrePalm sales, inwhich they should. Users should keep in mind that there were crowds at many Sprint stores across the nations. Many bloggers who lean towards the IPhone will tell you that the opening towards the Palm was small, but it still an amazing how Palm has generated a great deal of hype. Sprint has not released in how much their current sales opening has been, but proud on the standing of their opening. Palm does have several types of advantages in tha it does have a keyboard and is a greatalternative to the IPhons. With the opening date of June 19th of the IPhone 3Gs, it may push sales of the palm over and that may be soon coming.
